Rekha Puri was a guest speaker at SIPA Columbia University today in Alessia Lefebure's class Higher Education, Policy and Development in Asia. The focus was India and it was a privilege (and a treat!) to share LINEglobal's work. Check out Alessia's presentation "Higher Education and Development: India-China Impossible Comparisons?" that led to the most interesting group discussion.
The Global Education Coalition is a network of NYC-based organizations whose primary objective is to support educators in the New York metropolitan area in creating globally competent youth for tomorrow's future.
Bringing English To Life: Exploring Global and Local Themes Through Short Stories is a collaboration between Emily Schorr Lesnick (Theater) and Dwight Vidale (English) at Riverdale Country School, and Lowell Woodin (English) at Oberoi International School, Mumbai. All three teachers are also alumni of Riverdale Country School! Students in both Dwight’s and Lowell’s 6th grade English classes will read Alice Walker’s “The Flowers” and engage with themes of gender and coming of age through creative writing, analytical writing and dramatic activities.
Group Devising Across Nations: Rites of Passage/Coming of Age is a collaboration between Emily Schorr Lesnick at Riverdale Country School and Isbael de Moraes Rodrigues at Oberoi International School, who serendipitously met as classmates in graduate school at New York University after being in India! The actors in their respective 10th grade theatre classes will utilize technology to communicate and devise a collaborative theatre piece that explores rites of passage and coming of age traditions, asking "Which themes are culturally specific and which are universal?" This project will launch in Winter 2016.
Global Story-Sharing With The Writer's Bug, Avasara & Riverdale Country School began when Richa Sethi, Tanushree Angirish, and Emily Schorr Lesnick met at EdcampMumbai at Oberoi International School in March 2015. This partnership incorporates writing and theater to think about creative writing, storytelling and global collaboration in a new way. The project will take flight in the Winter 2015-2016.

This session highlighted our authentic engagement with Shiksha preschool, Nirav Modi Foundation, Mumbai, that serves students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Amy Liebov and Rekha Puri shared hand made materials and this Prezi, discussed our in-person teacher training program in March 2015, how we have continued our conversations via Whatsapp and Skype; and our next steps including an upcoming trip in March 2016 to work together in person again.
LINEglobal, Riverdale Country School and IIE Institute of International Education are co-hosting an event with Dr. Veronica Boix Mansilla on Friday, November 6, 2015. The Biodiversity Project connects educators and students in India with their colleagues in the US (New York, Ohio, Alaska, Wyoming, Arizona, Florida) and Australia. The National Science Foundation and the University of Wyoming support Jennifer Donovan's amazing work, and LINEglobal joined this effort in 2013-14 with the Sheth C.N. Vidyavihar, Ahmedabad. Jennifer Donovan teaches science atTrinity School in New York City, and is the founder and project leader of The Biodiversity Project.
